General Questions
Symptoms such as persistent back or neck pain, numbness or weakness in the extremities, difficulty walking or standing, or loss of bladder or bowel control may indicate the need for a spine evaluation.
Diagnostic tests may include X-rays, MRI scans, CT scans, or electromyography (EMG) to assess the condition of your spine and identify any abnormalities or injuries.
Non-surgical treatments may include physical therapy, medications, injections, chiropractic care, or acupuncture, depending on the specific condition and severity of symptoms.
Surgery aims to relieve pain, improve mobility, and enhance quality of life. While there may be some temporary restrictions or discomfort during the recovery period, most patients experience significant improvement in their symptoms and function over time.
Risks and complications vary depending on the type of surgery performed but may include infection, bleeding, nerve damage, blood clots, or adverse reactions to anesthesia. Your surgeon will discuss these risks with you in detail before the procedure.
Physical therapy or rehabilitation may be recommended to help you regain strength, mobility, and function after surgery. Your surgeon will determine the appropriate rehabilitation program based on your individual needs and recovery progress.
Recovery times vary depending on the type of surgery and individual factors. Your surgeon will provide you with specific post-operative instructions and recommendations for activities, medications, and lifestyle modifications to promote healing.
Success rates vary depending on the specific condition, the type of surgery, and individual factors. Your surgeon can provide you with information about the expected outcomes based on your diagnosis and treatment plan.
Your surgeon may recommend certain lifestyle modifications, such as maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding smoking, practicing good posture, and incorporating regular exercise to support spinal health and prevent future issues.
Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled at regular intervals to monitor your progress, address any concerns or complications, and adjust your treatment plan as needed. Your surgeon will advise you on the frequency of follow-up visits based on your individual recovery trajectory.
